• Implement a worm fingerprinting and filtering algorithm in Linux kernel with Netfilter.

• SA/XSA-strengthening of MD5 and SHA1 in OpenSSL.
• Implement a Bistro client in Firefox 2, Firefox 3 beta, as a Mozilla plugin, a Firefox Extension (written in XUL and JavaScript), or as an Internet Explorer WebBrowser Control.

Traditional projects:

• Implement a DNS client (RFC 1034, RFC 1035) for both direct and reverse lookups that interacts with real DNS servers.
• Implement a DHCP server and a client (RFC 2131) in Linux.
• Implement a priority-based scheduler in TinyOS under the TOSSIM simulator.
• Implement a deadline-based scheduler in TinyOS under the TOSSIM simulator.
• Implement and demonstrate the FIFO+ queuing discipline in Linux.
• Implement a traffic monitoring tool with the ideas in Building a Better NetFlow on Linksys WRT54GS wireless router using libpcap.
• Implement a routing protocol in TinyOS, and quantify its performance using Avrora.
